On Sunday 5th June over thirty Members, their families and friends had the opportunity of a guided walk around the private Mostyn Estate. Our hosts were Richard Davies, the Estate Forester, and his wife Selma.
After meeting at Richard's house we were taken to see Mostyn Hall and it's gardens, walked through delightful woodlands to admire the views over the Dee Estuary, and inspected the gardens where all the produce for the Hall is grown.
We visited the Sawmills, where we were fascinated to discover the complexities of timber production, particularly the supply of certified Welsh Oak. The day was completed when we were treated to tea and light refreshments in their garden by Richard and Selma.
The weather was kind to us, and everyone considered it a perfect day. Richard's knowledge of the history of the Estate and his evident enjoyment of his job made him a perfect guide, and Selma's hospitality was second to none.
While enjoying the tea we held a raffle and raised over £105, which was given to Selma to be passed on to the NSPCC, the Charity which she supports.
Richard suggested that we might like to undertake a more taxing walk through a different part of the Estate on some future occasion, and we assured him that there will be no problem in making up the numbers, and we're looking forward to the next day out.
